CLIENT ASSIGNMENT: FULLBLAST S.T.E.A.M.
Ages 16-29
Spring 2018, Open Works and on location at Light City
In this film style videography workshop, BYFA student fellows will work in partnership with Morgan State University undergraduates to produce a client assignment promotional video for the P.U.R.G.G. Project (Pop-Up Robotic Gaming Grounds) in Greenmount. An out-of-school-time program, P.U.R.G.G. hosts “Design/Build/Compete” workshops to introduce young learners to S.T.E.A.M. concepts and skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Mathematics). The video will focus on the group’s preparation for and competition in a tournament at Baltimore’s Light City (link), where P.U.R.G.G. 4th through 8th graders will compete on obstacle courses with robots and drones. BYFA fellows will be involved hands-on in every aspect of production, and while no prior filmmaking experience is required, they must be prepared to work together with Morgan film students as a professional crew. The intense, tight schedule will require all contributors be present and on-time for every meeting. They’ll experience the collaborative nature of filmmaking and learn to apply their skills to meeting the needs of client. They'll learn video and audio recording, interview protocols and techniques, and the basics of Adobe Premiere. Meetings will be broken into: Day 1: Pre-Production and Production (daytime shoot); Day 2: Production (nighttime shoot); Day 3: Post-Production (editing). Their short, collaborative film will be used by P.U.R.G.G. for promotion in Baltimore and beyond, and will also be shared at a BYFA public screening and on the BYFA website. Limited to 7 student fellows.
