2-D PAPER PUPPET ANIMATION
Ages 16-29
Fall 2022, JHU-MICA Film Centre

In this workshop student fellows will learn stop-motion animation using original, self-designed, jointed paper puppets.  They’ll start by practicing and refining techniques with both 2-D (cut paper/collage) and 3-D objects under the camera, then each fellow will design a paper character and create a storyboard for a short video.  They’ll pay special attention to creating compelling personalities and environments; figures, sets, and scenes that communicate ideas meaningful to the animator.  They’ll be introduced to animation principles, as well as to proper camera work, both technical--exposure and focus--and aesthetic--composition.  Individual final projects will bring each fellow’s vision to life.  Their work will be shared on the program website and at a public exhibition.  Limited to 8 student fellows.
