BUILDING YOUR VISUAL NARRATIVE: THE ART OF THE PERSONAL PROJECT
Ages 16-29
Winter 2022, Online
When it comes to establishing yourself as a photographer, where do you start? This workshop is for fellows who love photography and seek direction in developing their work. With step-by-step support, they’ll be guided through the process of imagining, shooting, and presenting a personal project, informed by their own creative visions and personal narratives. They’ll study the work of professional photographers, and consider a range of approaches, from long-form documentary to creative self-portraiture. Through assigned prompts, free-writing exercises, experimentation in lighting and composition, and group discussion, they’ll define and refine plans, and create complex portfolios. Finally, they’ll curate their images, each ending with a cohesive series that reflects their unique perspective. Work will be shared in a virtual exhibition, on the program website, and through a collaborative photobook. Limited to 9 student fellows.
