ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS: STORIES OF FOOD, FAMILY, & CULTURE
Ages 16-29
Fall 2020, Online
In this online videography workshop, student fellows will explore and share personal stories incorporating family recipes and food. They might build stories around a favorite dish or meal, interviewing a family “chef,” reconstructing the history of a family tradition. Or they might tell of their own adventures in the kitchen or at the grill: life lessons learned preparing their great great’s grandmother’s biscuits; their satisfaction in the crack of a Maryland blue they steamed themselves. They may incorporate actual moments of cooking into their films, or include images of handwritten recipes. Some fellows may have memories grounded in take-out meals, or in larger neighborhood traditions. All will be welcome! They'll learn interview techniques and the basics of videography, including audio recording and editing. Their work will be shared at a virtual screening and on the program website. Limited to 8 student fellows.
