GROWING UP BALTIMORE: COLLABORATIVE STORYTELLING
Ages 16-29
Fall 2022, Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus
In this videography workshop student fellows will make a collaborative film reflecting on and/or recreating meaningful episodes in their lives. They’ll start by responding to writing prompts, opening up their memories from early childhood to the present. Then together they’ll select experiences that represent each fellow, and work through possibilities for how best to approach the stories they want to tell. They’ll identify locations, create a storyboard and script, then in production, work as a crew to bring the story of “growing up Baltimore” to life. They’ll learn both technical and aesthetic aspects of camerawork; record sound in the field, using zoom recorders and boom mics; then edit their work using Adobe Creative Cloud. Their film will comprise a collective history even as it showcases each distinct voice. The final project will be shared at a public exhibition and on the program website. Limited to 8 student fellows.
Alfonzer Harvin is a graduate of the Screenwriting and Animation program (SWAN) at Morgan State University. He is Media Specialist and Web Designer at NorthBay Education Inc., and has created animations for Comcast and the Baltimore Parking Authority. He is skilled in all phases of production, and believes that knowledge is all we need to change the world.
Kerstyn Myers is a member in the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society at UMBC, where she is pursuing computer science. She believes technology and art are the connections to the future.
