LOST STORIES: ARCHIVING ORAL HISTORIES THROUGH PODCASTING
Ages 16-29
Summer 2021, Online

In this distance learning workshop, fellows will collect and archive what might otherwise be lost stories by interviewing three family members of an older generation, asking them to detail a story the fellows have never heard before.  These might be the interview subject's personal experiences or family lore passed down through the years.  Their preservation will be invaluable as both individual and shared cultural histories. Fellows will receive an introduction to creating podcasts, and will learn techniques of recording, editing, producing, and interviewing while honing skills of critical listening and analysis. The interviews will be recorded, edited, and combined with an introduction, conclusion, and where possible, archival audio, culminating in 5 to 10-minute long individual podcasts.  Individual podcasts may also be combined into a longer group episode.  Fellow work will be shared in a virtual exhibition and on the program website.  Limited to 8 student fellows.
