MOTHERS AND FATHERS: THE EDIT
Ages 16-29
Winter 2020, Johns Hopkins Homewood

In this short, intensive post-production workshop, student fellows will complete a pair of films shot in the fall 2019 workshop Mothers and Fathers: Two Documentary Studies.  They’ll return to the initial assemblies, sorting through raw interviews, b-roll, archival footage, and photographs; and progress from rough cut to final cut; adjusting pacing, tightening narrative lines, adding music or effects where appropriate.  They’ll correct color, refine audio, and design titles and credits, ending with polished short films suitable for submission to film festivals.  They’ll learn editing in depth with Apple’s Final Cut Pro, including compositing, multiple angle cutting, layering, compounding clips, keyframing, text graphics, filters, transitions, and color correction.  Limited to 10 student fellows.

Jim Mahjoubian, Video Production Coordinator for the Baltimore City Public Schools, believes any young person with an interest in film should be given an opportunity to explore and find their voice. In fifteen years of production and education he's helped many former students move into the industry with passion and integrity.

Olugbenga Osikomaiya, a Morgan State University graduate, is a freelance cinematographer and photographer who focuses on creating compelling images that also tell a story.

Rodolfo (Rudy) Avila is a freshman at Johns Hopkins University. He plans on majoring in public health or humanities, and following the pre-med track due to his desire to help others in any way possible!
