Dialogue

Every day I sit by the window, hoping they will let me go through and see what's on the other side.

"If he jumps, I'm not going to chase him," says Leo.

"I don't run, for no one or thing. He sees it's open, but he knows better. Please."

As night draws near, the window comes down to a slim crack so the wind can come and go. Leo and Sinny are finally asleep.

This is my time. If I don't leave now, I'll never know what's really out there.

Two hours later.

"Can you get her a bottle?" Leo asks Sinny as she wipes the crust from her eyes and rocks Selah back to sleep.

Sinny walks back in. "Where's your cat?" she asks.

"He's not in the back room? The bathroom? Under the couch? Did he leave?" Leo asks.

Sinny silently, quickly puts shoes and pants on. "I'll be back in a few. Going to go look for him. Don't worry, baby."

Sinny is worried, but still goes looking with a fragile bit of hope.

Sinny returns a few minutes later. "Nothing."

Days go by. Emotions go too.

"Let's make some foyers. That's the last attempt, then we'll leave it to the universe."

"If he comes back, we can't do things the same way. He should have been had a collar and we know the window shouldn't have been open."

"You're right. The only way the universe will help us reunite is if we are honest about how we got to this point." Sinny pulls her glasses down to her nose and looks at Leo.

"What?" Says Leo with a confused look. "You know what. We sat up here and acted like we didn't care if he ran. Then he did and we were sad as shit."

"Just be honest with yourself. We should have never left the window open and we shouldn't have acted like we didn't care if he left. We had all the wrong energy and karma is making us pay." Sinny vents as more copies print.

"The ink is fading, but that one is kind of cool. Come on let's go."

Leo and Sinny grab their mask and head out.

"He has no idea what he has gotten into leaving like that. Look! There's caution tape everywhere you go, for a reason."

"I know," says Leo with a mellow eye looking at the ground. "If he had his shots are a collar with our number on it, I'd wouldn't be so worried."

Leo looks to the bright sky. "Please, universe. Just this once. I promise I will do right by him if you let him come back!" Leo cries to the sky, their pace slows down.

"Come on. That was the last poster we had. Let's just get our mind in a different direction. The pool is open. Wanna go?"

“Sure, I guess. Maybe he went there. Who knows, who cares."

"You do! Stop that sad shit. He'll come back, you have to keep going." Sinny tries to motivate Leo.

"You're right. Again. I'm just going to go with the flow."

"That's the spirit. Rebel will return. For now, get into this water! It so blue and clear. Yas, let's swim."
