THE BEHOLDER: THROUGH A DIFFERENT LENS
Ages 16-29
Summer 2022, Online
“Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it,” the saying goes. Beauty might be found in nature, communities, people, animals, whatever we feel, and sometimes in what we overlook. In this online workshop, student fellows will look for beauty in unusual faces, places, and objects around them, even as they define for themselves what beauty is, what holds aesthetic interest, what has meaning. They’ll give voice to their own truths, their own points of view through a selection of still and moving images captured on smartphones or tablets. They’ll craft voice overs in poetry or prose, and add music and/or natural sound. They’ll widen their own lenses and those of their viewers, as they implicitly make their case for what deserves to be seen, valued, and celebrated. Their videos will be shared through a public exhibition and on the program website. Limited to 8 student fellows.
